Lüneburg:
This is a historic town that was once part of the Hanseatic League, a mediaeval commercial and defensive confederation of merchant guilds and market towns all over northern germany. The salt mine that brought fortune to the city has been closed and can now be visited. The highest recommendation however is to visit the Rathaus (town hall) with a guided tour. It was built in 1230 and is filled with art and history.

A beautiful small town along the river Jetzel. It has a historic city center and market square. It became a city in the year 1293, but burned to the ground several times and was last rebuild after a fire in 1811. The only remnant of the castle that once stood, is now one lonely defence tower.
